01Overview
Compound Engineer, operated by Aayush Ostwal (“we”, “us”), respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use compoundengineer.com, how we use and protect it, and the rights you have. We aim to collect only what we need to run the Services.
In short: we do not sell your personal data, and we do not run advertising trackers on the Site.
02Information we collect
- Account details: your email address, and your name and profile picture if you sign in with Google or GitHub. If you use a password, it is stored only in hashed form by our authentication provider; we never see it.
- Subscription and billing records: the plan you bought, amounts, dates and payment references. Card and bank details are collected and held by our payment provider, not by us.
- Learning activity: progress and preferences tied to your account, such as lessons you have opened or saved.
- Messages: the content of emails, support requests and bug reports you send us, and details you provide when booking a session.
- Newsletter details: your email address, if you subscribe through our newsletter platform.
- Technical data: IP address, browser and device type, pages requested and timestamps, recorded in server logs for security and reliability.
03How we use your information
- to create and secure your account and provide the lessons and features you have access to;
- to process payments, issue receipts and manage refunds and cancellations;
- to respond to support requests and run mock interviews and consultations;
- to send essential service messages, such as password resets, receipts and policy updates;
- to send the newsletter you chose to subscribe to; you can unsubscribe at any time;
- to maintain security, prevent fraud and abuse, and fix errors;
- to understand, in aggregate, how the Services are used so we can improve them; and
- to meet our legal and tax obligations.
Where the law requires a legal basis, we rely on performance of our contract with you, your consent (for example, the newsletter), our legitimate interests in running and securing the Services, and compliance with legal obligations.
06International transfers
Our providers may process data in countries other than your own, including the United States and India. Where we transfer personal data internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as contractual protections with our providers.
07How long we keep data
We keep account data while your account is active and delete or anonymise it within a reasonable period after you close it. We retain billing records for as long as tax and accounting law requires. Server logs are kept for a short period for security and then deleted. Support correspondence is kept as long as needed to resolve your request and handle follow-ups.
08Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), hashed passwords and access controls on our systems. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach affecting your personal data occurs, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as the law requires.
09Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, including under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, the GDPR and similar laws, you may have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you and receive a copy;
- correct inaccurate or incomplete data;
- delete your data and close your account, subject to records we must retain by law;
- withdraw consent at any time, for example by unsubscribing from the newsletter;
- object to or restrict certain processing, and request data portability; and
- nominate someone to exercise your rights on your behalf, and complain to your data protection authority.
To exercise any of these rights, email support@compoundengineer.com from the address on your account. We will respond within 30 days, and may need to verify your identity first.
10Children
The Services are not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has given us personal data, email support@compoundengineer.com and we will delete it.
11Third-party links
The Site links to external services, including our profiles on LinkedIn, YouTube, Substack and Medium. Their privacy practices are their own, and we encourage you to read their policies.
12Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our practices or the law change. We will revise the date at the top of this page and, for material changes, notify you by email or on the Site.
